I met Julian and bought his book shortly before his death. I am so glad I got the opportunity to talk with him and that I have some of his great wealth of genealogy knowledge. I would like to join this website, as my roots run through his ancestors.

This is the first time I have ever seen this website. I am totally enthralled with all this wonderful information. I would love to know if all this information is in one single source that can be purchased. I have discovered a pic of my father that I had never seen before plus my uncle Cliff's wife that died before I was born. I would love more info on this delightful discovery.

For those of you who do not know, Julian Williams passed away on December 29, 2014. He will always be missed. I have learned so much from this site about where my ancestors came from... his books are always enjoyable to read! RIP Julian...

Hi Julian, I was directed to your site by Ms Kenney at the flight training museum in Douglas. Good job on the gallery!
Do you have a picture, or pictures, of any of the old wooden bridges that used to span the creeks and small streams in that area? I think they were built by the WPA, CCC, or perhaps convict labor, I know they were maintained by prisoners.
I was born and raised in Broxton, you might remember my Dad, Reno Myers. He ran a bait shop in his yard near the school house, and also hauled the mail to and from the post offices in Jacksonville, Wray, Ambrose, and Broxton to the post office in Douglas.
Thank you for any help with pictures, and for this site.

Hello! I knew Julian as "Tub" when he was in the Navy. I dated his best friend, Frank Ray Jr. My brother lives in Eastman and his name is Calvin Yawn. We just discovered from a cousin, Bob Johns (Chief Bearheart) who lives in Tallahassee, that we were part Creek? I am trying to find more on this history.

We know friends of yours on St. Simons, Sandra and Loren Nobles. They speak very highly of you. I was very surprised to see your name in the history. Hope to be in touch. Love in Christ, Sherry Yawn Lust (Bill Lust is my husband.)

So happy I found this website. My grandparents Morris and Essie Williams lived in Jacksonville and were buried at Blockhouse. So are my parents Morris (junebug) and Zealie Williams. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents who lived near Jacksonville, fishing with Grandma Essie and swimming in the Ochmulgee river. Arnold Williams and Doris, two of my grandparents children are still living. I still return to Rhine and Jacksonville often. Are we related? I remember you. Great job.

Great website you have here. I've been into genealogy for a while now so reading everything was so interesting. I just love learning about where I came from and who I'm related to. So thanks for sharing !

Julian, your site is wonderful. I've really enjoyed looking through it. Unfortunately I'm not able to pull up the stories but the pictures are great. My Daddy was Eschol Howard Williams, son of Lewis Wright Williams and Leala Bowen Williams. Leala was daughter of Andrew Jackson Bowen and Emma Fussell Bowen. I grew up in the Macon, Twiggs Co, & Warner Robins areas so unfortunately, I was in Telfair County very seldom and I don't remember much of my Bowen relatives. Any information or pictures of my Williams or Bowen relatives that can be shared, I would greatly appreciate. MY email address is

Danny Harbin, Are you related to Armanda Harbin wife of C.H. Parmenter? My gg grandmother was married to Webster J. Parmenter before James W. Harper in 1864. I am trying to find out who her parents are. She was an Awtrey from Athens GA. We have a photo of a Susie Awtrey 1870-80? We have many photos 1840-1900, but a lot of them aren't marked. Some direct surnames are Harper, Awtrey, Barnes, Hazel. Some lines through marriage are Loftin, Taylor, Parmenter.

Hi Julian,
Do you have any more info on The John L. Day? My Grandfather James W. Harper supposedly ran one of Day's boats in 1880s. He also worked on The Swan earlier. I see Wicox were ship builders. At one time my grandfather had his own ship and burned it to keep it from North. I am trying to find out more about him. He was born in KY., but lived in GA. most of his life. He died in 1884. Francis Americus Awtry was his wife. I hope to find out "his ships" name which was used in The Battle of Port Orleans.
Sincerely, Dana Harper Davey danad@juno.com

I first found this site a few years ago. Thought it was great then, it's fantastic now! I drove down to Jacksonville, McRae and Rhine and tracked down several of the historical markers, visited some of the cemetaries. Mr grandmother who passed away September 19, 2007 age 89 was from the Walker, Burch, Willcox, Coffee, Peterson lines down that way. I found the Willcox Burying ground and was able to take her down there to see it. She had not been there since she was a child. Again, your site is wonderful! Thanks

Just discovered your site. My great-grandfather was James Knox Polk Williams (b.March 9, 1845 - d. Feb. 12, 1908 & great-grandmother was Alice Roxanna/Roxie Ann (? found her listed as both)Fussell. Her grave is on the Ocilla Hwy between Fitzgerald & Ocilla at the Mt. Olive Church. I never could find JKP Williams' grave. Then I found he is probably buried at the Blockhouse Church cemetery (I think Baptist). I was born in Fitzgerald and lived with my grandmother, Priscilla Handley, nee Williams, daughter of JKP & Roxanna. I don't have pictures of anyone in my family on that side. Your site is just a treasure trove of info, and I can fill in some of the blanks. My middle name is Priscilla...named after my grandmother and her grandmother, Priscilla Peterson who was married to Joseph Goodwin Williams.

I noticed that you have pictures of my Aunt Melba Grace Mixon-Fletcher, her son Wiley and his wife, Kathy. Aunt Melba was more like a mother to me when I was growing up. She is and always has been a good person and a very loving aunt. Wiley is like my brother. He, too, is a good person. Kathy, on the other hand, is Kathy. Just kidding. I love her dearly.
